ABCs of 2013

I am looking forward to a lot of things this year, and I figured I would outline them the way Tina @ Carrots n’ Cake did!  Because well, it looked fun, and I like filling out things that are organized and logistical – and this kind of fits that bill.  Oh shut up.

A- Annual Father’s Day Party at our House.  Every year we have both families over for Father’s Day so that everyone can celebrate together.  TPWSNBN’s father and my father are both really important to us, and the cookout works nicely and lets use spend a lot of time with them, without having to run to the other families house.

Me and Dudeski

B- BIRTHDAY!  I love my birthday.  I absolutely adore it.  Not because it’s a day that’s all about me, but because recently we have been having a get together at our house with friends and my sisters.  It ends up being a cookout or potluck and everyone just has a great time.  I think this year it might consist of going to dinner or something minimal since I’ll be in school, and most likely in class on my birthday, but the memories we have made celebrating are pretty awesome.

C- CAPITALS GAMES!  The hockey season was in peril, and then by the grace of God, the NHL lockout ended.  THANK ALL THAT IS HOLY.  I thought I was going to have to become a basketball fan.

Oh Yes, Us Again

D- Date Nights.  I am reinstating this.  Too many nights that we plan on doing things we end up at my parents house or Target.  I am still trying to see Zero Dark Thirty.  TPWSNBN, either take me, or I’ll go alone.  I’ll take myself on a date.  No, but in all seriousness, we need to do fun things more often so our lives aren’t work, school, errands, and chores.

E- EATING! No really!  We are branching out of our comfort zone, thanks to Adie, my favorite Foodie, we are trying great restaurants, foods we would have never dreamed of trying, and slowly but surely, I am learning to incorporate different foods into our every day lives.  (Hi Raw Tuna.  I love you.)

F- Fires.  Let me explain.  It’s actually cold enough to have a fire in our fire place.  This is amazing because last winter there was like one day we could have done it, and it was a Tuesday so we would have had to put it out like 2 hours after lighting it.  No bueno.

G- Gardening.  Okay bulbs and plants, we’ve tried.  I’m pulling out the big guns this year.  I am planting the hardiest plants I can find all over our front garden and fill that bitch out.  I’m tired of the stringy plants and things dying within 6 days.

H- HOSTAS! One of the hardy plants I’ll be introducing all over our front yard.

I- Investigating and researching

J- Jason (or as you know him TPWSNBN) I am just looking forward to our 6th wedding anniversary, spending time with him, etc.

K- Kerouac, of the Jack Variety.  I’m doing a big research project on him and I am just too excited to start.  I have already started compiling research and I just want to be home reading up on his life, and his work and then compiling the project.  Sigh.  He was amazing.  I wish I could have just met him.

L- Light houses – We aren’t going on a full blown vacation this year because of tuition and school schedules, but we are planning on some weekend trips, one of which will take us to Chincoteague (Spell check).  They have Light Houses, right?  Well I am looking forward to seeing one up close.

M- MARATHON.  MARATHON. MARATHON.  I can’t chicken out.  I can’t chicken out.  I can’t chicken out. I can’t chicken out.

N- No Negativity – I’m giving up negative thoughts about myself for Lent.  Every time I have a negative thought about myself I have to put 10 bucks of my money into savings.  I know it doesn’t seem like a punishment, I mean it’s my savings, but I spend money like there is no tomorrow (my personal money that is) and this will be a problem if I have an especially pity party day.

O- Oxford Journals – My subscriptions are coming in, and I get them all year.  I’m a nerd.

P- PAPERS – I’ll be writing a lot this year.  I might as well get excited about it now.

Q- Questioning my self on what I think I know about myself.  Grad school is much more than learning things.  It’s introspective.  I am already learning a lot about myself and it’s only been two weeks.  I wonder was an entire masters degree will leave me with.

R- Running & Racing Duh.  I have just about 20 races (virtual and real life(?)) I’m looking at doing this year.  I am really excited about the season to get started.  If I am always training for something, I can’t slack on my training.  Which means I am bound to get better.  The only way to get better is with repetition.  That and I am going for the full marathon this year.  I chickened out and dropped down to the half this March, but the Marine Corps Marathon is calling my name.  Literally.  Let’s do this 2013!

S- Strength Training – I am getting really good at doing this without thinking.  ”I just ran 3 miles, but I could do a quick ab circuit.”  I want the tone and the strength.  I want to be able  to lift heavy things and put them down.  I want to be able to throw medicine balls at bad guys.  I want to look good in a tank top.

T- Thanksgiving – Another day that both families come over for the feast!  It’s great.  It’s one of my favorite days ever.  I am in constant awe when I see how much food was consumed.  (24 pound turkey is usually 95% gone by the end of the day)

U- Updating portions of the house – nothing huge, but like the interior doors, light fixtures, curtains, etc.

V- Vacation – We aren’t going on one persay, but I will be taking time off, at least at the end of the year.  We never go anywhere but something about sleeping in till 10 and then lazily having brunch and not getting out of PJs all day sounds amazing.

W- Williamsburg, VA – I love Colonial Williamsburg, and we have been going once a year for the past couple, and it looks like this year will be no different!  I am really excited to get back down there and do some tours, and branch out into other areas of our history as well.

X- Xeroxing.  I’ll be doing a lot this year will school.

Y- Young Adult Novels – a class I’ll be taking this Summer!  It’s with my current professor as well, so I know I’ll enjoy it.  She’s amazing and I love her, and I want to be her when I grow up.

Z- ZEBRAS – It’s been too long since we have been to the National Zoo, and there is no excuse.  It’s free darn it.
